Object or form
For topics, subjects, objects, or events, determine which elements are similar or different. Often used in writing to answer questions like “What are the differences in theoretical appraoches in two essays on a given topic?” Compare and contrast involves examining the characteristics and qualities of each subject to highlight their similarities and differences.

Rules
1. The two items being compared must be concerning the same topic.
2. The two items being compared must be of the same scope in depth.
3. The comparison points must be similar in number.
4. The comparison points must be similar in scope.
5. The comparison must be objectively based on the points.
