Scientific method

Object or form
Used to answer a research or inquiry question and develop a theory or model, the scientific method is a cycle generally with the following steps: 1. hypothesize an answer or explanation, 2. make observations, 3. analyze and interpret the data, 4. draw conclusions about the hypothesis, 5. use the conclusions to synthesize a broader theory and or repeat the cycle with a refined question or hypothesis. In general, climate science uses the scientific method, for example in answering the big question, “Is the change in climate due to human activity?”

Rules
1. Complete all the steps for one cycle of the scientific method.
2. Working hypotheses must be clear, concise, testable.
3. Observations or data collection must be related to the hypothesis.
4. Data analysis must be valid and reliable.
5. Conclusions must be supported by the observations or data analyses.
6. Limitations must be addressed.
