Cause and effect analysis

Object or form
Correlation between two variables does not always imply causation. A case and effect analysis seeks to determine if the correlation is significant, that is, the change in a variable directly affects another variable. A question this kind of analysis could answer would be “Is the increase in CO2 in the atmosphere the cause of rising global temperature?”

Rules
1. The variable or factor being affected must be clearly defined.
2. The variable or factor correlated with the affected variable must be clearly defined.
3. The correlation between variables must be significant.
4. A significant correlation must have evidence to be judged a cause and effect.
